A Roof over our heads

This week saw a slow down in activity at the chateau!

The roof tiles went on, which took two days and then then capping and "pointing", as I am told it is called. For those of you who are not au fait with all building terms, capping are the tiles that go over the ridges on the roof and "pointing" is the goo, cement like stuff that they use to hold the capping tiles on and basically make it waterproof.

We also had more bricks arrive and sand as well. We have asked for off white mortar but this sand looks very dark, so I am a bit worried that the "off white" will look decidedly "dirty grey". Only time will tell as the bricking has not started yet.

Friday we went to the house and found that the cavity frames, for the cavity sliding doors had been fitted. Our back door is on, and the french doors from the dining room to the alfresco are on too.
The back door..

We also have a temporary front door as well. Our timber bi folds and timber window are still missing. Apart from that I think once the bricks go up, it will be at lock up. I'll need to check the contract definition to be sure.

Amazingly as you see below, the sticker says "this side out", and guess what, it's inside of course! Any one see a problem with that?

We need to make some changes to power points (we need them moved higher on the wall) and the water point in the walk in pantry (need it higher as well). Am I likely to get a better reception from the SS rather than my CSC? Has anyone done this successfully? I'd rather get it done now than have to get it moved after hand over, when I will need to replaster and repaint when I move it.

Roof looks great J. What a difference it makes when looking at the pics.

Ummmmm, this side out means THIS SIDE OUT! Hello!!!!

I'd probably be inclined to raise the electrical issues with your SS rather than CSC. We went directly to our SS with stuff like that.

Hope the mortar turns out to be what you expected. Don't they mix something into the sand to get the lighter colour?

ROOF!!!!! *dance*
It looks great and makes your house looks more like a house now! Can't wait for lockup stage!!!

Do'h! Guess builders just don't bother to read do they?

No clue about mortar... hopefully you got the right one!!!

Hi J,
I would recommend you talk to your SS about everything from now on! Hopefully you have a reasonable one like ours who understands the benefits of getting it right. We found ours to be very approachable and happy to help.
Congratulations on the roof - and I can't believe the doors are hung already (even if they are the wrong way...)

J!!!!!!
Wow!!!!
It is looking awesome! Can't believe how quickly it is going along for you! How nice does it look? Love that longer portico, the tiles ( sorry, which were?? ) and that laundry door....noice!!! I
PRAY that the mortar works out well and you don't have issues like G&A...fingers crossed for you!
When will bricking start?
And not that I'm speaking from experience...but I'd be really tempted to just ask SS about the electrical changes and bypass CSC altogether!
Hope you have another great week,
K.

Looking good J
And definitely speak to SS rather than CSC, our CSC just knocks down every request even if its their mistake, so your safest bet would be SS and if your SS is accomodating, he will be happy to get it done for you.
Cheers

Guys,
really starting to look like a home now. The off white mortar is the colour of teh pile in front of our place if you want a comparison, plenty of pictures of it now. Funny about the doors, we were also told our doors are temporary as the real one went missing. Perhaps it ran away with yours, lol.

Thanks everyone for the comments :-)

We went back on Sat night because I had not taken a "front on" pic on Friday and GUESS WHAT!! They have taken the doors off and rehung them correctly! Also put in the bath & spa cradles and put locks on the doors that are there. No flies on these tradies!

Thanks T, The roof does make so much difference to the look of the house. Also when we are inside it just looks more "house like" LOL

Hey Lexriel, we can't wait for lock up wither, although, in truth I can wait for another invoice!

Mandy, we can't believe it either. If you look at the timeline on the front page, there has only been about 5 days that something has not happened. I know others have had issues with PD, but we seem to be going ok, fingers crossed it continues.

Hi K!! So glad to hear from you! Any idea on your start yet? Can't wait to see another Illoura going up. The roof tiles ate Tudor profile, barramundi colour and the fascia, gutters etc colourbond Ironstone. We think bricking will start this week, although we have heard that brickies are in short supply.

Hey WBH, your place is looking fabulous! I thought I might go to the SS, but don't want to step on any toes, so to speak. I'd rather not burn bridges unless I have to. So, I'll ring him this week, unless he rings me first. We're due for an update.

Hi R&C, will check out your blog pics as soon as I post this. Our timber window has run off too, perhaps a menage-a-trois? (your door, our door and our timber window?)

Take care people!
Cheers
J

Awesome pics, BB! LOL about the door being inside out... perhaps builders only like looking at pictures and skip all the articles?

I think speak to SS about your electricals as your CSC would have to go through him anyways.

All the best for the bricking!

Yay for me!!!
I was quietly hoping your roof was Barramundi, Tudor profile as that is what I am having too! So pleased ( for both of us! ) that it looks so good! ;-)

Your nougat brickwork looks completely different to mine. Just goes to show how important it is to choose the right mortar colour...dang :(

Any construction related issues you should speak directly to your SS. If you contact your CSC, she will direct them to your SS anyway. It's good to build a relationship with your SS like we have. Our SS has been really helpful so far. We call him, he calls us, lots of communication...everybody happy!
