Meeting the Man in charge..

Hello all,

This morning we met with our SS for the first time, "J". All our communication thus far has been emails and phone conversations. We had a long list of issues and questions, as everyone does. So, bright and early at 7am we met at the house.

We are both really pleased with our SS and his approach. He went through each of our concerns individually and let us know what would be done in each case. As we went through other things cropped up and those were listed. "J" was meeting the chippies on site after us so he was going to get them to address these issues and he is organising a roof check too.

Our most worrying issue, cracked roof truss..

"J" also spoke about what happens from here outlining what will be happening in the short term. Wisely, he refrained from venturing an opinion on when he thought it might be finished!! Still cannot see how it could take until August 11. But lots of things can stuff up from here. (Hope they don't of course!)

Anyway, bricking has continued this week and we are really happy with the way that the bricks are looking now...

The insulation both sound and wall is now in, it went in Monday and these guys were amazing. Every little space everywhere was packed. No hole went unfilled (leave that alone!!) and we were surprised at how good a job it was.

Insulation now installed..

Plaster has arrived. Supposedly the plasterers were supposed to show up on the 25th, (Ummm... No Appearance Your Worship!) "J" is going to chase them up.
From the front door, looking down the hallway. Plaster stacked in the family room...

Then came the sparkies, without a doubt, the messiest, could not give a continental, lazy B*'s, you'll ever come across. Insulation pulled out and ripped off around power points, holes, section. Some places they just pulled the bottom half of the batts completely off. One thing about sound screen, if there is a hole; sound will travel through it, rendering the rest of it as useless. The sparkies left the house littered with sound screen "bits", wall bat "bits" and crap. "J" said that it is part of the plasters contract that they put the insulation back in if it has fallen out. But the insulation has to be there first and we went up each night and put all the insulation back in where we could. We will get another packet of sound batts this weekend and fill everywhere else.

Lots of plastering and cornice to come...

Have a great week everyone!

Gee that sounds familiar. One tradie ripping out what the previous tradie did. Messy tradies??? No way ... get outta town!!!

We had to re-pack all the bulkheads in our HT when they started ripping plaster down to straighten the walls.

As you say, you're actually much better of going to Bunnings (I tried Safeway but Rob scored in Bunnings) and getting the insulation yourself to fill the gaps, like we did. You have a much bigger and better selection of top quality batts.

Nothing quite like stalking your build to touch up the bits that could slip you by : )

Cheers
Liana

That roof truss doesn't look too good does it? Hopefully won't be a drama to address. Common thread amongst tradies not paying any respect to prior work down that get's in their way. Great that SS is working well for you too!

Great that you had a good meeting with your SS. Sounds like he is a good one.

I'm surprised that the insulation went in before the electricals. Ours was the other way. Tradies don't give a rats about another trades work, it's simply not their problem. Shocking isn't it.

Can't wait to see it plastered ;-)

Ooh, where is my clapping hands emoticon again when I so need it!
Go Team Illoura!
How exciting to be able to visualise all the rooms.
The bricks look great...wow, you must almost be at lockup! I feel another invoice coming on.
Fantastic news that you have a great SS - that's half the battle won right there.
How did the noggins go?
Do you go in the house whenever you feel like it, like for photos, soundscreen, noggins etc....or did you have to get special permission from SS?
Hope they keep up the great work for you, can't wait to see you plastered!

August 11......!!! You have to be kidding. Your house looks to be about 2 months away, 3 tops. Am I missing something.
Good idea to do your own running repairs on your batts. Would never assume that the plasteres do it for you...!

Hey all!

Liana, stalking my build is the mildest thing you could say!! We are there every night taking pictures and monitoring progress.

Hi Tracey, Shaun and Cooper, good to hear you guys are finally on your way!

M&J, we were concerned that the roof plaster would go on before we could see that it has been fixed. Still awaiting fixing...but SS has already fixed quite few things on the list so we are quietly confident (otherwise we will be loudly obnoxious)

Hi Toni, I think that the electicals were supposed to be in first but that they have come in late. I am fairly sure that we wer told that they were booked a week before they showed up. Then they did a days work disappeared for two, came back for a bit the next day and missed again. Not very confident about it at all. I think I will ask for an audit when we get the C of O.

Hi K&T, yes GO TEAM ILLOURA, especially now you are on board!!
Noggins were no problem, we just wanted them to hang pictures, towel rails, toilet rolls etc. We are not at lock up yet, so we can still get into the house. After lock up it will depend on how dilligent the trades are are locking it up :-). Yes and that lock up invoice is a dooooozy!!!

Thanks WBH, sorry to hear that things are not going to well at your place. Better to make sure of everything now than have to fight over it later. That's what we told our SS, yes it can be fixed later, but why not get it fixed now instead of plastering then having to rip off the plaster and then do it again? Sounds like you have a good SS now at least, so that is a good thing.

David, that is what I am worried about, that we will get told only 6 weeks out. I have to get our current house ready and on the market, otherwise two mortgages for however long it takes to sell. Not a good look.

Cheers everyone!
J

August 11?? Hmm... I cant see why your house would only be completed in August... That is like 6 months away....0.o;;

Since you are almost at lock up stage... I cant wait for the Fixing stage to see all the interiors!!!
