Bemused by National Tiles

Well, we did our tiles appointment on the 12th. "N" was busy so she promised to draw them all up, plot them and quote them either that day or over that weekend. She did not have the Illoura 36 loaded into her computer. So, instead of waiting, seeing it all, getting a quote etc, we went home and waited for the email.
Today is the 23rd and I now have an email. The tiles are about $400 under my budget which is good. But, (isn't there always a but!)
  • The drawings she has used to "plot" them have someone else's name and address on them. Personally, I would not be happy if they start sending my name and address to other people.
  • The ensuite on the floorplan does not have a spa and we do, although she appears to have drawn it on the elevations, so I am not sure that the sizing, therefore will the quote be correct.
  • There are codes on the drawings that do not match the codes on the quote, so which one takes precendence?
  • There are wrong codes and wrong tiles.

It seems that this all gets requoted again once we get contract drawings anyway??

So, my question is did anyone else have any of this happen to them with national tiles and did your tile quote change much between the quote before and after contract?

Hi J&S - Yes we had a lot of the same problems you experienced with NT. We had different codes on the quote in comparison to the samples we took home, and they also had different codes on the front listing in comparison the diagrams. It took a couple of phone calls to sort it all out but these are simple mistakes which you would expect that as these people do this day in and day out they would be no longer happening and have the appropriate checks in place to prevent this.

As for using someone else's plans to quote 'your' work, I too would be pretty unimpressed if my details were sent to another client.

Hi BelleBeau
Me again.
Yes we had troubles with NT as well. I actually had to go there again and get the selections done again, it took them 5 trials again to correct it.
I specifically asked for stuff like tiled kickers and feature tiles but they were not able to do it right until after 5 attempts, i actually did not leave their office on the second appointment until they sorted out everything correctly.
As far as wrong codes are concerned, i would not leave a scope for mistake, so even if CSC says the ones with right codes will supercede, i'd still expect an updated correct code on drawings as well.

J&S,
just saw your blog. We had similar things happen to you, wrong plans (actually wrong size house) and wrong configuration (we had actually changed the number of bathroom) however they quoted all the same. In short we had a discrepency between their floor calculations and ours as we were having them quote for tiles for the whole downstairs area.

We could not match sq meterage so we ordered just for bathrooms, less the laundry and powder room and ordered our tiles somewhere else. Our earlier blogs have the detail.

In short, not a good experience and we saved money and got better tiles going outside.
