I love my bricks...

Hi everyone,

Not a lot has actually happened since the last post. Some of our items have been fixed, we now have window locks on all our windows and the right glass in the ensuite window. Plaster is still sitting there, if any one sees my plasters can you please send them over LOL! We did get our internal garage door though. We also went up over the weekend to put in some extra sound screen. What a PITA, glad we got PD to do almost all of it for us.

But the best bit is that today the front facade bricking was finished. The mortar is not dry everywhere, that's why the colours look a little strange. But, how good does this look!!! We are not having render, so this is it and we love it.

This is from across the road,I know it looks weird with the cage and port-a-loo right in front of the house...

Garage has lintel in place and bricking over

This is my favourite picture so far

We are a bit concerned at the bricking over the timber doors/windows. All the aluminium windows have the lintels and bricks right over the top of the window frames. The timber window and timber doors all have an "extra" area above them (about a brick or so in height) then the lintel, then the brickwork. Have a look at the picture below. This is the timber window and the bi folds in the alfresco area.

Same with the french doors (below) and the front and back doors which are also timber.

Can anyone tell me anything about this? Is this normal?

We also had some rain YAY! so we now know that the roof leaks in "bed 2", surprisingly the rest of the house appears to be water tight.
Hopefully, plastering next. "J" told us it was supposed to happen on the 25th, but I think he meant February, otherwise we'll be waiting a while longer.

The bifolds were also supposed to come this week, so once they close up the sidelight, we'll be at lock up. I feel a massive invoice coming on....

Have a good one!

Hi J, we really are neck and neck - we're even blogging at the same time! Lol.
Your house looks gorgeous! I love the bricks and they look fantastic against the timber doors and windows. I'm afraid I can't help you with the brickwork over the top - I'm sure there is a very good explanation.
I too am dreading the lock-up invoice - at least interest rates are good at the moment!
Looking forward to the next post, Mandy

Wow J, your place is rocking, that feels so quick. Great work and yes your bricks look amazing. You are not getting the front part rendered, right? I think if thats the case then the bricks will lool classy by themselves, good choice, well done.
Also, i noticed in your pics that you have bricks above portico (between the pillars), was this an upgrade or is that standard part of the facde because your facade looks stunning with that brickwork.
Sorry cant help much about the brickwork above timber doors as windows as I didnt see any such brickwork when our bricking was done.

CDB, looking really good. Glad the bricks are turing out the way you wanted. the hole above the foors is normal, they have a covering piece that is applied later on. We thought the same thing thinking they had missed a brickline or something. R&C

Hi J,
Yep, your Bricks look great! Very classy.
Nice to also see a Facade that has the extra window to the garage.
Have you gone for timber doors and windows to all 3 walls in the alfresco or just 2?
Hope those plasterers turn up soon for you!
Have a good weekend. :-)

If your timber frames are being stained, check with your SS that they're going to use hardwood for the infills above the doors and windows.

They have a bad habit of using treated pine for infills, which is fine if it's to be painted, but looks crap stained. Unless you like a greenish tinge....

So pleased to read that you are loving your exterior colours. I think your house looks great. You've probably heard me say that I like dark houses, that mainly applies to doubles. For singles I love your colours. I think R&C's lighter bricks look great but they have a great facade and different windows and I think that makes all the difference. Light bricks on a double with a plain flat facade and light windows look crap....

Anyway back to your lovely Illoura. I can't help either with your timber windows/doors and the bricking as we don't have any timber.

Isn't it a bummer that they put the loo and rubbish right in the middle of the photo! So inconsiderate :-) Hope the plaster comes soon, although it's probably good that's not sitting in there with the rain at the moment.

Hi All and thanks for your ocmments.

Mandy, LOL I was at your blog while you were here! I'd liek to sya I'd race you but we have no plaster. In fact work seems to hav stopped :(

Hi WBH, yes we are glad the bricks turned out so well, we are not having any render. Just brickwork.

Thanks R&C, that is a bit of a relief, we had not noticed it on any other builds. I guess you look harder when it's yours LOL.

Hey K, we are having french doors from the dining and a timebr window and the bifolds from the family onto the alfresco. The rumpus is a solid wall. What are you doing?

Thanks Kek, we know to keep a look out, we are having them all stained.

Hi Toni, yes, very inconsiderate to put the port-a-loo and rubbish cage dead in front of the house!! I can't get a shot of the house front on, it's either one side or the other!

Have a good long weekend people stay safe!

Cheers
J

Belle'. Great progress. Lucky for you to got some rain at the right moment, and could see how your roof coped. The rest of us have no idea what's happening in our roofs when it rains....!!!
What did they end up doing about that cracked roof truss? Did they replace it?

Hi J,
That house just goes on forever down that block! It looks huge from the side. Have to agree with Toni's comment - the lighter bricks look great on single level homes - definitely gives the house a classy look.

Also agree with Kek. Those gaps above your timber frames are for the timber infills, so make sure they use hardwood.

Really pleased to read that you love your bricks.

Cheers,
Liana

Hi David,

No, they have not done anything it yet. According to a builder friend of ours, they can put a piece either side to laminate it and it will be ok. Bit no fix yet.

Hey Liana, you don't know how relieved we are! Not having anything else as part of the "facade", if the bricks did not turn out well, there was nothing else to drag the eye away from them. So we are really happy it has turned out well.

Fingers crossed your build is going well.

You have every right to love your bricks as they look beautiful! ;) Still going at a great pace too. Great to see not many leaks too. Best to catch them sooner rather than later.
