Move along.... Nothing to see here!

Hello All and Hi to Grandpa in Novogrod, keep warm

Well interesting week, dare I say. The painter finally arrived on 22 April Yipee!! He obviously found the house after two weeks, marvellous things those GPS units! Ummm, missing the tiler that was supposed to start then....

Sorry no pictures, nothing to see because they have taped down all the windows and the timber doors with at least three pieces of thick plastic which is totally impossible to see anything through at all! We can't get in and we can't see in either!!!

We can get into the garage so we know that the ceilings have been painted and it looks like quite a tidy job. The cabinet maker went in on Friday while the painter was there to measure up for the quote for our study joinery. We also got the concreting quotes. Holy hell, prices have gone up from when we set the budget last June! Concrete and reo have gone through the roof in the last 12 months it seems, because everyone was around the same ballpark figure.

The best I can do is a picture of the type of driveway/walkway we are having:

It's called slatecrete and it's your basic charcoal colour. We'll have this for the driveway and paths at the front of the house, plain coloured concrete for the walkway down the side of the house and something a bit daggie for the alfresco. Shhh!! Only we and the concretor are supposed to know that.

We had our building inspector in for the fix inspection too. Result - fix invoice still not paid. The stone bench top got liquid nailed to the cabinet tops before they put the sink in the middle (it's an under mount) so, we're waiting for them to come rip it out, put in the sink and then put a new stone bench top on. What an absolute waste! It was obvious that the cabinet tops had been routed to take the sink, but no, they put it on anyway. Apart from that the house got the thumbs up at the stage which is good to know.

Apologies for the absence of pics, hopefully the plastic will come off sometime this week! It's like waiting for Christmas, all those presents wrapped up and you can't open them.

Fingers crossed for all of you not locked up that the weather does not slow you down or do too much damage!

Have a good one all!

I can imagine how frustating it is when you are not able to get in your own house.. But imagine looking at fully painted house without any mess, it will feel like a christmas present indeed. Hoping that your tiler finds your address soon too lol.
Will wait for your next update with Pic fiesta

Hey, that's not such bad news. Frustrating I know not being able to see it, but at least you know that something is happening inside your house ( unlike mine....)
The driveway looks great....hope the price isn't too far over your budget.
Something daggie in the alfresco??? You can't say that then not give details!!!!! Can't for the life of me work out what you are planning??? Seagrass matting perhaps???
Oh, and most importantly....Carn The Bombers!!!! ;-)

WBH, I can't imagine your frustration, but it's good that Kev did not find much, so fingers crossed PCI is very soon and thenyou forget all the dramas of your build and enjoy your new home!

K&T, what can I say? After that last remark, I can hardly expose my soft underbelly of daggieness to you!

Cheers

Hahahahahaha!!!
Touche.
I think I get it now! ;-)
Can I ask if you are having the black and white stripes coloured through the concrete...or painted on afterwards???
:-) :-) :-)

K,
My entire laundry is beautiful Black and White. Black floor and cupboards and White bench and tiles. I wanted a black and white kitchen but decided against it when they revived me after giving me the price!!!
Good win

Hi J,

I, too, dislike K&T's nasty comment! I love the idea of black and white stripes in the alfresco, though, lol. Perhaps I will do that as well!

It is so frustrating not being able to see the painting, but it is going to look so great when it is finally revealed, all finished! At least our painter has left some little holes in the plastic for us to peek through..

You're scaring me with the concrete quotes, does this mean we're going to have to borrow more money?? Noooooo!!!!!

Can't wait to see some more pics.

CDB, guys you are starting to chase us ehre with the painters in there, only seems like yesterday this was happening to us. Really like the drive selection as that is very similar to what we have picked (Regal I think it is) but we have gone for bluestone type color. Really intrigued about the but daggie pattern, you must show a photo, lol. Glad to see you are not paying until you get what you have paid for, we are very proud of you both. We are having fun with our sink too. The first one got stolen and the second one dosen't look like the right. PCI day this week will cover that one. Keep up the photo's

Hi BB, you must be itching to see what's under the covers hehehe The driveway choice looks great but I have a suggestion for the alfresco... red and black is very much in! ;P

Hi BelleBeau, how exciting it will be to see your house when it's finally uncovered!
Maybe the tiler is in there and you just can't see him.
I'll look forward to seeing the alfresco floor, my guess is that it will be polished.

3 coats of thick plastic covering? Wooohooo! That's sensational! It's a pity you can't see into the house, but I am impressed that they're being so meticulous about avoiding damage.

All I can say about your kitchen benchtop is ... oh no ... not you too. Same thing happened with ours and then when they DID cut the hole out for the sink, it was the in wrong spot!

Love the pending driveway and great to see your inspector didn't have much to write about. Ours is going through this Friday :o

Cheers

Great news to hear you sold your house so fast. that must be a relief. It's so frustrating when they seal it all up to paint. Ours is like that again after 3 weeks of some sections being pulled down by the tiler while he worked. We have visitors next weekend and I dearly want them to be able to peek through the windows and if the painters haven't finished they won't be able to.

Your future driveway looks great J. Really nice, love it.

Sorry to hear you were locked out but..... it's for a good reason! Hope the painters have been working hard.

Great that the inspector gave the thumbs up. Hope the sink/bench works out okay for you.

Nice driveway!!!! Aaahh.. I need to get quotes for driveway too!!! Too busy... :(

Ouch for not being able to see your house progress! I, myself already feel frustrated for not being able to get into the house, but able to take a peak through windows. Can't imagine if I can't see anything at all! Oh well... it's all for good reason.

I think your house should be done by next month!

Hi Mandy, the ball park quotes we got last July have gone up on average $2k. Everyone tells us the cost of concrete and reo has doubled in the last 12-18 months. Bugger!

Hey R&C, you must be getting close! What is it about PD and sinks?? Everyone seems to have an issue with them.

M&J, yes we are itching to see it. But not if it's red and black YUK!!!

Relle, we have been able to sneak in most times. It's sooo frustrating!!

GOOD LUCK LIANA AND ROB, Fingers crossed that PCI goes ahead for you guys this week. Is your sink in yet?????

Hi Toni, we're happy withe the driveway choice, it's just the cost that is the issue. We need drainage etc and they are doing some earth moving too.

Hey Lexriel, yes, driveway quotes time for you too! Especially with this weather otherwise you'll have to swim to your front door!

Cheers
